Update: A statement released by Acting Director of Student Affairs, Dr Colleen Vassiliou, announced that the student who was found dead is Navino Walker.

Walker, who was completing the final year of his BA degree, was found dead in the bathroom of his flat on Thursday, 23 October.

Police Spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender said the police have opened an inquest docket but that, at this time, no foul play suspected.

Walker, from East London and in his mid 20s, was found by his friends after they became worried when they could not reach him via his cellphone and when he was not answering his door. The friends allegedly tried most of the day to get through to him but after having no luck asked the owner of the flat to unlock the door at approximately 18:15. According to Captain Govender, he was found in his bathtub having presumably passed away sometime during the course of the day or previous night.

Govender further reported that his family are on their way to Grahamstown.

The Office of Student Affairs stated that the students concerned are receiving counselling and that the crisis line is in operation for other students who may need assistance. Arrangements for a  memorial service will be announced in due course.

The Activate staff offer their sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Navino.

I presume you mean 23 October and not 13 October?
