Rhodes University’s First Rugby team faced off against Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) at the annual Intervarsity games, which were held in Port Elizabeth this past weekend.
The game was kicked off by Rhodes to cheers from the excited crowd. NMMU dominated from the start and managed to drive Rhodes back into their territory with ease. Rhodes made an effort to counter the attack but to no avail.
The first try of the game was scored by NMMU within the first ten minutes. The conversion was missed leaving NMMU with a leading score of 5-0.
Rhodes managed to push NMMU back into their 22, however, this was a short lived domination as NMMU’s defence was too strong for the attacking Rhodes team. This lead NMMU to score their second try of the game but missed the conversion again.
NMMU took advantage of Rhodes’ efforts and managed to slip through their frontline to score a try. Despite missing the conversion again, NMMU lead the game 15-0 within the first 30 minutes of the game.
The second half solidified NMMU’s capability as they continued to dominate against Rhodes with another try, leaving the final score of the game at 20-0 to NMU.
