Kiyosaki, author of the bestseller Rich Dad, Poor Dad, was told when he was young. Ever heard these words and been convinced that they are a solid idea? In today’s world of scarcity of employment, poverty-stricken communities, government policies and employers downsizing due to recessions and financial woes, this advice might not be such a viable option any longer. Although education is very important, nowadays, the government is encouraging people to venture into entrepreneurship. According to finance minister Pravin Gordhan, SMEs (small to medium enterprises) are critical to the growth of South Africa’s economy. The rich get richer as the poor struggle to keep their heads above water. New billionaires are born, and some have fallen. The Forbes list, the list of the richest people in the world, has increased this year both in the number of billionaires and the combined wealth of these billionaires, which now totals a massive $4.5 trillion (R31.5 trillion).
