A woman, aged 19, was discovered dead in the Grahamstown area on Sunday morning by neighbours.

Police suspect the death was a result of being stabbed by the landlord of the Grahamstown home, a 37 year old man.   After which he allegedly set his couch alight and left the body on a bed, according to spokesperson and police captain Mali Govender.

The victim’s autopsy results are still being waited upon to determine actual cause of death.

Witnesses have reported that the two were at one of the local taverns in Transit Camp informal settlement. They returned to the man’s house and witnesses state they could hear the victim crying.

A search for the woman’s alleged murderer is in process. No arrests have yet been reported.
